1.Student athletes are STUDENTS first. Way they perform in the classroom academically and behaviorally will impact their ability to compete in meets.
Suspensions and F's follow the district Athletic Code procedures.
In addition, each week a Google Sheets - Accountability Form is sent out to all students teachers. Teachers fill in the sheet for how their students are performing in the classroom throughout the week. As the week progresses we check in with students who have a trend of comments of missing work or disruptive behaviors in class. Once we talk to them they have til the end of the week to improve. If not, the following actions will be taken for student who receives a disruptive classroom behavior and/ missing work comments
1st time will be a special workout
2nd time the student will miss the next meet
3rd time student will miss the remainder of the season
Goal when looking through the accountability sheets is to see growth and improvement in our students throughout the season. Make sure they are trying to be the best student they can be.
2. Students need to be PRESENT and ACTIVE at practice
The season is short at only 6 weeks start to finish and goes quick!
Students must attend practices unless excused by a parent. If a student was at school that day, they should be at practice. There are only three days of practice a week so it is very important they are there in order to improve. Spring sport season is ramping up soon so us coaches know there may be some practice conflicts with baseball, soccer, softball, club volleyball, and AAU basketball. If that is case simply email and we can work out a plan for the season.
Not only do students need to attend practice, but they need to participate while there. It is NOT just an extra hour and half to hangout with friends in the bathroom or just walking around. Each student will have events and a coach to go work with every day. If they are going to be allowed to travel and participate in meets, they need to do so at practice.
Unexcused absents and limited to no participation at practice will lead to miss meets or being removed from the team.
3. Students MUST represent the SCHOOL and the TRACK Program well
Great behavior at meets, on the bus, and at practice are very important. Students are expected to talk and act appropriate, respectful, and responsible. Us coaches should NEVER hear complaints from parents at a meet, another school, Johnson Bus, Sabish staff, or custody staff about our track team.
Students who are unable to act appropriate, respectful, and/or responsible at practice or meets will be removed from the team.
4. Bring best effort/attitude and have fun
Our goal is regardless of the students starting times or distances is that they grow throughout season. PR's (Personal Records) are our goal every meet. If a student is showing up to each practice, putting in effort, and keeping a positive attitude through struggles; they will see the growth and hit new PRs! A student setting new PRs and reaching goals is extremely rewarding!
Have fun learning to compete and building relationships with your teammates.
